Neo-Romance
As a commentary on the current era of love and dating, Neo-Romance (originally for clarinet and string trio) explores the tumultuous, twisting nature of love in the contemporary view. Paying homage to the Romantic Era's soundscape and form, Neo-Romance likens itself to fluid Brahmsian melodies while incorporating individual parts that create a contemporary soundscape similar to Walton's. This performance was for the Talent Unlimited High School Annual Gala in May 2023. The performers are as follows:
Jay Julio, violin
Yoonjung Hwang, violin
Kayla Williams, viola
Malachi Brown, cello
Why Didn't is a song about unanswered questions and feelings left in the dust from a past relationship. Most questions in an unresolved parting end up beginning with, "why didn't." This song's lyrics and story arc highlight one version of this feeling of confusion, to anger, to self-assurance. Performed by the Dream Quartet (Maggy Simon and Liz Hendy (violins and vocals), Dwayne Beach (viola and vocals), Malachi Brown (cello and vocals) And the Breaks Inc.
